Abe Krahn, 82, of Steinbach, Manitoba went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. Abe passed away peacefully at home with family by his side.
Abe was born in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico where he lived until the age of 16. He then moved with his family to Winkler, Manitoba where he met the love of his life, Susie Reimer. The two were married and settled in Winnipeg, MB and had 5 children together. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this November.
Dad loved family gatherings and camping trips when his grandkids were young. Joy and pride shone in his eyes, and happiness in his bright smile.
He was a man who valued hard work and enjoyed a successful career as a steamfitter which had him moving from Manitoba to Alberta, to BC and back to Manitoba.
Dad liked to keep busy and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. We will always remember the way he sat in the garden, working the soil and plants, always with a jar of gasoline by his side for the pesky potato bugs. Nothing suited his fancy more than an entire meal fresh from the garden. His kids and grandkids were the happy recipients of his amazing woodworking skills in the form of wooden toys and furniture, including 18 cedar chests, one for each of his grandchildren. We always teased him that had he known he was going to have 18 grandchildren he would have started with something smaller.
Dad will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Susie Krahn and his children Clarence Krahn (Ingrid), Sandra Esau (Vern), Karen Unrau (Randy), Debbie Esau (Sheldon), and Patti Unger (Wayne). Dad leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and his brother John. He was predeceased by his father and mother Ben and Sarah Krahn, and siblings Ben, Sara, Pete, George, and Cornie.
The funeral service for Abe Krahn will be held at Crossings Funeral Care on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Viewing will take place at Crossings Funeral Care from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Due to Covid-19, social distancing rules will be followed and only 10 people will be allowed in at one time. The 10-person, private family funeral service will be live streamed and can be accessed in the parking lot or from home. A private family burial will take place at the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach, following the service.
