Timothy Wayne Unrau

January 31, 1972 — December 11, 2024

It is with great sadness and love that we announce the sudden passing of Timothy Wayne Unrau of Steinbach, Manitoba, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the age of 52.

Tim was born on January 31, 1972, to John Unrau and Margaretha Martens, who both predeceased him. Tim missed them deeply, especially his mother, whose umbrella he carried with him everywhere as a comforting reminder of her love.

Tim loved life, music, and his family. Though he didn’t get to fish as often as he wanted, it brought him joy whenever he had the chance. He had a passion for hockey, cheering for the Winnipeg Jets, and could mimic the announcer’s goal celebrations perfectly. As a child, he practiced his slapshot with his siblings as his (sometimes reluctant) goalies.

Tim had an unmistakable sense of style, often showing up to work in flamingo-print shorts, rubber boots, and a muscle shirt. He loved practical jokes and didn’t mind being the target of them. Known for his generosity, Tim often gave away his last dollar to help others, and showed hurt feelings easily when someone didn’t like him.

Tim was a music lover through and through. Singing everything from gospel to heavy metal. He filled every room with his voice and often recited scripture with passion and conviction. Tim adored movie nights with his brother Johnnie, especially watching his favorite film, Bloodsport. Tim also loved quoting Austin Powers and making everyone laugh.

When it came to food, Tim had a sweet tooth. He cherished waffles with strawberries and white sauce, and cinnamon buns were a close second, he was an expert in telling a top-notch bun from the rest. He was also fond of Popsicles, Slurpee’s, and Pepsi.

Tim faced many challenges in life, but he never gave up. Though he struggled with addiction, he never stopped believing in a better future and sought help through Teen Challenge seven times. Tim’s faith in Jesus was unwavering, and he loved attending church and Bible study. He often said he wasn’t the best at staying awake in Bible study, but it was there that he experienced some of his happiest moments.

Tim loved deeply and unapologetically, especially his family. He adored his nieces and nephews and was fiercely proud of them. His laughter and tears were genuine, and he lived his life from the heart. While planning ahead wasn’t his strong suit, Tim always made up for it with his sincerity, quick apologies, and heartfelt gratitude.

Tim’s presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. His family takes comfort knowing he is now singing with the heavenly choir.

A funeral service to celebrate Tim’s life will be held at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach, Manitoba, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Tim’s name be made to Steinbach Community Outreach and/or Teen Challenge. Contributions can also be made to assist the family with funeral costs, and e-transfer payments can be sent to info@crossingsfuneralcare.ca with Tim Unrau Funeral in the bank transfer message.

For those of you unable to attend the service in person, the family would like to invite you to join them on livestream.

Rest in peace Tim, you have left behind big shoes to fill and even bigger memories.
