She was affectionately known as Grammy Susan to Brendan, Alessa, Rosie and David and is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces & nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents John & Susana Hiebert, six brothers, two sisters, two sisters-in-law, one niece, one nephew, one great niece and one great nephew.
Susan was born on March 13, 1943 in the RM of Hanover on the family farm. She was the most highly educated person in the family having completed Grade 10 at Bothwell High School after which she moved to Winnipeg and worked as a Health Care Aide. In her mid-twenties, she moved to Toronto and found employment with a large insurance firm. There she worked her way up from being a file clerk to a senior management position where she remained until her retirement. In 1997, she moved back to her Manitoba family and to keep busy, volunteered at the Jake Epp Public Library, Ten Thousand Villages and in the Gift Shop at Bethesda Hospital.
She enjoyed travelling with her friends and visited many interesting places. She was also an avid reader and her book collection was extensive. One of her favorite places was spending summers at her trailer in Rainy River with family and friends. She especially enjoyed having her Ontario family spend time with her there and taking them out on her pontoon boat to go fishing and exploring.
She will be fondly remembered as a very kind-hearted and generous person – it brought her great pleasure to give a “hand up” and many people in her life have personally experienced this.
A private family viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 9:30 am - 10:30 am at Crossings Funeral Care. A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Crossings Funeral Care. At Susan's request there will be no public viewing.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the thoughtful and supportive staff on the 3rd floor at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.
