Suddenly, in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 7, 2024 our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend Rick Wiebe went to his heavenly home at the age of 73 years.
Rick leaves to cherish his memory: daughters Roxane (Guy Dowhy), Tara (Gus Durksen), and Jolene, son Daryl (Carisa) and daughter-in-law Jenean; his beloved grandchildren Rory, Kiley, and Maren Durksen, and Isabel, Wyatt, and Caroline Wiebe; sister Irma (Henry) Friesen. He will also be missed by his buddies Teemu and Teppo.
Rick is predeceased by his son, Dale and wife,
Phyllis.
Born in Winnipeg on August 4, 1950, dad was adopted into the home of John and Susan Wiebe in July 1951. He married Phyllis Goossen on October 23, 1971, and after a short time in Edmonton, they made Steinbach their home where they raised five children.
Dad’s office shelves are full of awards recognizing his skill and immaculate driving record from a lifelong career in trucking. Retiring from the road, he brought his knowledge and experience to United Driver Training as an instructor where he worked until his cancer diagnosis last summer.
The open road was also where dad spent his favourite pastime. He enjoyed many motorcycle trips with his uncles, cousins and friends and was looking forward to more riding this summer.
Dad loved to socialize and share a laugh. He could be found in the coffee shop almost every day telling jokes or stories with friends and strangers alike.
Our mother told us she knew dad would be a good father and she was right. Family was everything and we spent lots of happy times together. Even when he was out on the road dad was very much present in our lives. He always told us no matter where we were he was ‘in our back pocket’ watching what we were up to. Dear dad, the truth is that we always carried you in our hearts, and we will until we meet again.
A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and medical staff who cared for our dad over the past few months, in particular Jo-Anne Durocher whose kindness and friendship went above and beyond.
A come and go viewing will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Crossings Funeral Care.
