With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Jeffrey Gordon Ross on March 19, 2023 in Niverville, Manitoba, at the age of 45.
Jeff was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, to Arthur and Dianne (Begley) Ross, and was the big brother everyone wishes to have (fiercely protective, endlessly teasing and incredibly loyal) to Stephen and Lindsay (Michiel Rubenkamp). Never one to be outpaced, he earned not one but two degrees from Vancouver Island University (Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management, 2010). This was only after ensuring he secured his own set of pilot’s wings in Brandon, Manitoba (2004), following in the footsteps of his beloved grandfather, Gordon Begley (Edythe Begley, née Thornstienson). It was here where he met the love of his life, Annie, and on February 11, 2006, they married in the beautiful island city of Parksville, British Columbia, which they called home until 2011.
Without any doubt, the greatest joy in Jeff’s life was becoming a father to their three beautiful children: Owen David Gordon (15), Gavin Jeffrey Douglas (12) and Annika Jordan Elizabeth (11). Our solace is knowing that his spirit lives on in each of them, and that they know how much they were loved and cherished by their amazing dad.
A beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, coach and friend, Jeff was — as everyone knows — an unapologetic force. Quick-witted and always ready with a zinger, incredibly funny, boisterous (and without a filter), competitive, and a fanatical sports fan (49ers faithful!), his energy drew you in because there was no other option; Jeff was all-in which meant that if you were lucky enough to be in his life, you were too.
Jeff spent his professional life overseeing the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario regions in the retail and commercial operations of the oil and gas industry. He was a hockey and football-lover (but Calgary Flames hater), spider-killer (yeah, right!), can-play-anything-by-ear music lover, dancer and singer, video and scary-game player, master collector, loud snorer and sleep-talker, falafel- and crepes-making partner, but above all, a lover of his family, his community and his home in Niverville.
Having received God’s promise of salvation at his baptism, and having his faith kept alive by God’s living Word, we know Jeff is in heaven for the sake of the shed blood of Christ, with all those who have departed with him in the faith, including his grandparents, Gordon and Edythe Begley and Lazare and Alice Ross, his uncles, Roy Stevenson, David Ross, Gordon Ross, and his aunt, Kathleen Erneste.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Ann Ross (Sylvester), and their children, Owen, Gavin and Annika; his parents, Arthur and Dianne Ross; his brother, Stephen; his sister Lindsay and husband Michiel; aunts Sharon, Laurie (Ian), Eileen, Ann, Joan (Bruce), Janet; uncle John (Denise), cousins Jamie, Keith, Kevin, Amanda, Stephanie, Kim, Brenda, Tracy, Jodi, Kevin M, Sean, Wendy, Stephanie R, Teresa, Colleen, Mike, Kirsten, and Andrew; his parents-in-law Gordon and Patricia; sisters-in-law Katie (Dean), Maria (Jason), Jessica (Jeremy); brother-in-law, Christopher (Kimi); and many nieces and nephews by whom he will be remembered fondly.
Jeff, you have left us far too soon but you will never be forgotten. You made each of our lives brighter and we miss you every single day. We love you always Jeff.
Having been received into God’s heavenly kingdom by the grace in Christ Jesus, a funeral service will take place at the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (1541 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M-3V8) on Friday, March 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The family will hold a private interment with a private family and close friends reception to follow at Jeff and Annie’s beloved home.
