Gordon Rae Bartel

Gord Bartel ,65 of Steinbach Mb. passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025.

Gord will be missed by his wife Shannon, kids Derek (Alessa), Mallory (Ryan), and grandson Theo. Along with Gord's siblings, extended family and many close friends. Shannon and Gord were married for 42 wonderful fun-filled years.

Gord started dairy farming at 15 years old with his dad. He spent 15 years building up his herd until they sold the farm in 1989.

In 1990 Gord and his partner, Peter, bought Countryside Farms together and a new life began. They put all their effort, hard work and time into growing the business as a major competitor in the Canadian market, with the bonus being that they had a lot of fun while working. Gord always hoped the employees enjoyed their jobs. He made many wonderful and meaningful connections and friendships through work. 

As a family we spent our winters skiing with cousins where Gord learned how to snowboard and he taught his kids, among many other strangers how to ski and snowboard as well. And in the summers, we spent time at the family cabin. For countless hours Gord would go boating around the lake with the kids tubing and watering skiing. In 2013 Gord and his friend Sjoerd started their adventure sailing their catamaran together and fun took on a whole new meaning. They would sail down the lake going as fast as they could trying to get up on one pontoon. Fishing also became another passion with close friends and family and have many memories ending a long fishing day with an amazing fish fry dinner.

The cabin was Gord’s happy place. He could sit for hours looking out at the water or puttering around the property. It became his sanctuary while dealing with cancer. 

A Come and Go Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 7 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Crossings Funeral Care.

A very big Thank you to all the Dr.s and nurses at Cancer Care who cared for Gord so graciously. Also Thank you to the Dr.s, nurses and health care aids who cared for Gord during his time in the hospital this last month
