Enid Maria Swaine (nee Hvanndal)

November 15, 1937 — February 27, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Enid Maria Swaine (nee Hvanndal) on February 27, 2025, at the age of 87. Enid passed away quietly in her sleep at Bethesda Hospital, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of cherished memories.

Enid was predeceased by her beloved husband Ron, her sister Fay and brother-in-law Speed, her son Gord, and her daughter Leslie. She is deeply missed by her surviving family: her sister Donna; her children Chuck (Ann), Barbara (Peter), son-in-law Doug, and daughter-in-law Barb. Enid was also a proud grandmother to 8 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom was her pride and joy.

Enid began her career in the Navy, but her true calling was being a teacher. Her lessons were never just about the task at hand but about the joy of learning and the importance of being present in the moment. Enid was born and raised in Piney, Manitoba, where she also settled down with Ron to raise their family. Enid and Ron enjoyed being an active part of the Piney community by running the Valley Inn Restaurant while they raised the children, and then by participating in various social clubs in their retirement years. Enid was always ready to share her knowledge, wisdom, and keen wit with her family. Whether it was teaching her children how to pick berries in the wild or imparting life lessons through conversation.

Enid found peace in nature tending to her garden, watching the deer outside her windows, and devoutly mowing her lawn. She had an affinity for butterflies, watching them grow from the cocoon until they emerged and took flight. Enid’s home was a welcoming haven where there was always coffee ready to enjoy, and the door was always open for family and friends. Her home was a place where she passed down her knowledge and love of the earth to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Enid’s legacy will be carried on in the values she instilled in her loved ones—the appreciation for nature, the joy of teaching, and the importance of family. Her strength and wisdom will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Enid’s passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will live on through the lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy will endure in the hearts of her family and friends.

A private family service will be held to celebrate her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethesda Hospital for the care and compassion that Enid received in her final days.

Rest in peace, Enid. You will forever be loved and remembered.
