It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Elizabeth “Betty” Koop. She passed away peacefully October 17, 2024, at age 70 surrounded by loved ones.
Betty is survived by her loving husband Herb, daughter Ginny (Richard), son Bryan (Bree) and grandson Haiden. Also left to mourn her passing are her siblings Ruth, Ernie, Dorothy, Carol, Sandi, Barb, Rick and Tim along with their partners and families. She also leaves many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her father Cornelius, C.E. Hildebrand, mother Agatha Hildebrand, brother-in-law Rolly Goudreau, sister-in-law Carol-Ann Anderson, nephew Darryl Peters, father-in-law Jacob Koop, mother-in-law Katarina Koop, brother-in-laws Henry Koop, Abe Koop, Peter Koop, sister-in-laws Liz Koop, Leona Koop, Katie Wiebe, and niece Judy Koop.
Herb and Betty, met in Steinbach and were married July 31, 1971 and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Betty was baptized June 7, 1981 and became a member of the Grace Mennonite Church in Steinbach. They spent many of their married lives in Steinbach, raising their family, except for 20 years when they lived in Winnipeg. After her retirement from Manitoba Hydro July 6, 2011, they returned to Steinbach. Betty enjoyed travelling, reading, and watching the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers on TV. She also loved gardening with her friends from church, cheering her grandson on at his hockey games, spending time with friends and family, and quilting.
The family would like to express their gratitude for your prayers and support while walking with them through this journey. Dr. Skrabek and her team at Cancer Care at Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Lam and his team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto and most recently, Dr. Reimer and his team at Bethesda Regional Health Centre for supporting Betty’s wishes and making her last days comfortable.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Grace Mennonite Church in Steinbach, MB followed by a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lymphoma Canada, Cancer Care or Steinbach Soups On.
The interment will be a private family function.
