It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of my life partner, dog dad, son, brother, uncle and friend, Brian David Poetker on Thursday, July 25th, 2024.
Brian was born on June 7th 1964 to Jacob & Elma Poetker, formerly of New Bothwell, Manitoba. Brian grew up on the family farm just south of New Bothwell. At a very young age, it was very evident that Brian loved animals and how drawn they were to him. It didn’t matter what animal it was, he was patient and caring with them. Brian spent many years working at MB Sugar with his dad and brothers and eventually made his way to Calgary and worked in the construction business. He spent many years in Calgary, living with his brother Alvin. After his sister Marilyn passed away, Brian decided to make his way back to Manitoba making Marilyn’s former home, in New Bothwell, his. At this time Brian & I re-established our relationship and began our lives together, adding our fur baby, Gibson, to the family. In the latter years of Brian`s life, he encountered many health struggles, the latest being renal cancer.
Brian leaves to cherish his memory forever, the love of his life, Robin Denis of New Bothwell, his fur baby Gibson, parents Jacob & Elma Poetker of Steinbach, brothers Norman (Joan) Poetker of Vita, Harvey (Bernice) Poetker of New Bothwell, sisters Valerie (Randy) Verestiuk of Mitchell, Angela (Brian) Falk of Mitchell, Irene Poetker of Winnipeg, Parents in law Mike & Pat Denis of St Clements, sister in law Lise Lafreniere of Winnipeg along with many nieces, nephews & friends.
Brian was predeceased by his sister Marilyn in 2012, brother Alvin in 2014, brother Wayne in 2024, brother in law Lonnie Denis in 2023 & grandparents.
A combined celebration of life for Brian Poetker and his brother Wayne Poetker will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Bothwell Christian Fellowship Church , 20 Sara Ave, New Bothwell, MB. Followed by a reception. For those unable to attend in person the family invites you to join them through livestream.
